Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 17-year-old obese male. I suspect I have IBS-D (irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea) because I get diarrhea in 15 minutes despite eating a home-cooked meal. I am not sure about it as I have not consulted any doctor. Also, I have morning sickness for two to five minutes daily. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) causes this type of diarrhea. IBS is of three types:

1. Diarrhea predominant.

2. Constipation predominant.

3. Mixed variety.

From the symptoms mentioned, you are suffering from IBS (diarrhea predominant). However, IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion. I suggest you follow the following instructions for managing IBS:

1. Take a proton pump inhibitor like Pantoprazole or Rabeprazole to help neutralize the acids in the stomach.

2. Eat a healthy balanced diet and avoid fat and pepper.

3. Take smooth muscle relaxants like Mebeverine for stomach pain.

4. In refractory cases, drugs like Chlordiazepoxide and Clidinium bromide can be used if the condition is not responding. I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
