Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a chronic mental disorder where the person has obsessions, that is uncontrollable and recurrent thoughts, and compulsive behaviors, which they keep repeating. For example, they have a fear of germs, so they keep washing their hands. The other obsessions include intrusive thoughts about sexual activities, need things symmetrical, aggressive thoughts, etc. The compulsions include checking, counting, orderliness, following a strict routine, and keep wanting reassurances. The risk factors of OCD are family history, past traumatic experiences, and other mental disorders like anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. People with OCD have a poor quality of life, get suicidal thoughts, and their relationships are troubled. The treatment is done with the help of psychotherapy and antidepressants like Clomipramine, Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, and Sertraline.
