This doctor is not available for online consultations on the platform anymore.Hello doctor,
I am 29 years old and had protected sex (without ejaculation). But I took the unwanted 72 for the safe side the next day, exactly after 24 hours. I got my periods on the expected dates. It was heavier on the first day with clots and a bit medium on the second day. Is it fine as I did not have any spottings after seven days of taking the pill but got the periods exactly on my expected date? Is it normal, or do I need to worry about it? When should I expect my next period?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your history and understood your concerns. As you have proper menstruation at your time of period date, there is no chance of pregnancy. Withdrawal bleeding is only a side effect of the emergency contraceptive pill. It happens due to the sudden withdrawal of hormones from your body, so it does not necessarily happen to everyone. In your case, you may have menstrual irregularities, which could be due to hormonal imbalances caused by the emergency contraceptive pill. That is why it is a little unpredictable when you get your next period; maybe you will get it on time or delayed by 7 to 10 days. As you took the pill on time, there is almost no chance of pregnancy.
Hope this helps.
Thank you.
Hello doctor,
I am just concerned about the change in my period pattern. I used to have a heavy flow on the second day and sometimes on the third day. This time it was the reverse, heavy flow on the first day and medium flow on the second. Is it normal?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Yes, it is normal, and you should not worry much about it. These period changes are normal after taking the emergency contraceptive pill. Consume a good amount of green tea. It will be normal after two to three cycles.
Hope this helps.
Thank you.
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
You mean I should not confuse it with withdrawal bleeding. And it is normal if I have my periods only for three days this time. The first day is heavy, the second-day medium, and the third-day medium to light. This is fine and normal.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
You should not confuse withdrawal bleeding with your period. Withdrawal bleeding sometimes does not occur, so there is no need to worry about it. Likewise, your period is perfectly fine; no need to worry about its flow and bleeding amount. It is only due to the hormonal imbalance caused by the emergency contraceptive pill, nothing to worry about. So relax, everything will be fine, eat lots of vegetables and fruit and drink a lot of warm water.
Hope this helps.
Thank you.
