This doctor is not available for online consultations on the platform anymore.Hello doctor,
I had the first stage of a root canal performed two weeks ago. The pain did not subside, and the side of my face swelled. I went back to the dentist last week, however, and was given antibiotics. Now I am on the last set of antibiotics with no relief. I still cannot open my mouth past a certain point because of the pain, and my throat hurts when I swallow. I have just discovered an abscess on my gum near the tooth that underwent the root canal. So my question is, have the antibiotics failed? Should I contact my dentist as soon as possible or wait till I finish the last day of antibiotics?
Hello,
Welcome toicliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Why is there such a delay in making the next appointment? The root canal treatment could have been finished in three days or within a week. Unless the roots are properly cleaned and disinfected, this swelling and pain will continue, as the antibiotics are not able to control the infection. Ask your dentist for more potent antibiotics and to clean and drain the roots. Use a warm salt water gargle three times a day.
I hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.
